Last year, my mom mentioned wanting to get some updated family portraits of our family, since we hadn’t had a nice family picture of the three of us – my mom, my little brother, and me – in I don’t even know how long. My brother and I decided to gift her a session for Mother’s Day and make it happen! We hired my friend Erica of Erica Abbey Photography because she did an amazing job with my and Andrew’s anniversary pictures the year prior. Erica is super sweet, has a fun approach, and is wickedly talented, and I was excited to work with her again!
When we made these plans, Andrew and I weren’t yet engaged, but because our session happened after our engagement, he joined in the session for some of the pictures. In late September, the four of us met Erica at one of my favorite locations – the Howard County Conservancy! It was an overcast day, and while normally I’m a hazy sunset kind of girl, the weather didn’t bother me, and I even think it complimented our outfits, haha!
Let me tell ya… it’s real easy to forget how being on the other side of the camera can raise some anxious feelings. Not only was I glad to have this experience just to have these wonderful keepsakes of my family, but it was a nice reminder of the thoughts and feelings that invite themselves along to a photo session.
Despite any thoughts of worry, Erica was wonderful in working with us, and I enjoyed spending the afternoon with my family. With my and my brother’s different schedules and commitments, time together is sometimes more scarce than I’d like. Our session allowed us a few hours to catch up and goof off, and now I have these photographs to cherish forever. I love looking at them; they immediately fill my heart with warm fuzzies when I think of my brother’s belly laugh, my mom’s comforting embrace, the sense of belonging my family gives me.
Our photos turned out beautifully and I’m so grateful to Erica for taking these for us!
