Our first year of marriage was harder than I expected. Everyone says it – that the first year of marriage is hard – but I didn’t think it’d apply to us. Our relationship, generally, has always felt easy. But it did. Our first year as husband and wife had some growing pains. I guess that’s to be expected when you’re learning something new.
It’s a tricky thing, marriage. I know I’m not the same woman I was when we said “I do,” and sometimes, it’s hard for me to know how to show up as your wife while also following my own truth. There’s no “This is How to Be a Wife and Your Own Woman” manual. Luckily for us, grace and compassion are two principles we try to live, day in and day out. Some days are easier than others, but the one constant is choosing each other. Every day that we choose each other is a gift I’m so appreciative of.
Here’s to year two. I love you.
Many thanks to my incredibly sweet and talented friend Becca of Rebecca Pickett Photography for meeting us in Shenandoah to help us celebrate our “paper” anniversary.
