3 Reasons I Love School Portraits | Maryland School Photographer
Although I launched the school portraits side of my business at possibly the worst time (March 2020!), it’s grown to be something I absolutely love and can’t imagine NOT offering. There are so many things I enjoy about being a Maryland school photographer, but these are my top 3 reasons.
Did you know that prior to becoming a mom, I was a special ed pre-k teacher for 10 years? It’s true! I had the privilege of working with so many cool kids, who really were the best part of my job. They’re the reason I stuck it out as long as I did! It was actually after a 4ish month internship with adults during undergrad that I realized I could never work with adults full time, and that solidified my decision to pursue teaching.
I don’t know about you, but my school portraits have stuff like laser backgrounds and awkward embraces with trees or chairs. Weird. Not cute. I love that I can offer families beautiful portraits of their children that are more modern, timeless, and capture who their child really is.
The cool thing about a local business working with another local business is the community it builds! We have the opportunity to develop a great rapport that goes beyond just the transactional “click, click” of a camera. Several of the directors I work with now know bits of my life, and I know pieces of theirs. Likewise, when my school portraits families come to me for family or newborn sessions, we establish another connection that leads to really cool experiences and familiarity.
