5 Fun Spring Family Date Ideas in Baltimore
Spring is finally here, and if you’re anything like me, you’re itching to get outside with the kids and soak up some sunshine! After months of being cooped up, there’s nothing better than fresh air, blooming flowers, and some quality family time. Luckily, Baltimore has tons of great spots to enjoy the season, and I’ve rounded up five of my absolute favorite spring family date ideas.
If you haven’t been to Sherwood Gardens in the spring, you’re seriously missing out. This place turns into a magical wonderland of colorful tulips—perfect for a relaxing walk, a picnic, or just letting the kids run wild while you snap some gorgeous photos. Bonus points if you pack a lunch and make an afternoon out of it. Just be prepared for the kids to “pick” a few flowers (even though they’re not supposed to—oops!).
📍 Location: 4310 Underwood Rd, Baltimore, MD 21218
🎟️ Cost: Free
Got kids who love exploring? Irvine Nature Center in Owings Mills is the perfect place to let them get their hands dirty (literally). With walking trails, a butterfly house, and hands-on exhibits, it’s a great way to mix learning with fun. Springtime means baby animals, buzzing bees, and fresh flowers—so there’s always something new to see. Pro tip: bring an extra set of clothes because someone is bound to find a mud puddle.
📍 Location: 11201 Garrison Forest Rd, Owings Mills, MD 21117
🎟️ Cost: Free (donations encouraged for special programs)
Some days, you just need an easy win. Lake Roland Park is perfect for that—it has stroller-friendly trails, open spaces for the kids to run, and a peaceful boardwalk over the water. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot turtles sunbathing or birds nesting. It’s the kind of place where you can take a deep breath, let the kids explore, and maybe even sip your coffee in peace (maybe).
📍 Location: 1000 Lakeside Dr, Baltimore, MD 21210
🎟️ Cost: Free
What’s a family outing without ice cream? Prigel Family Creamery is a springtime must-do. Not only is the ice cream chef’s kiss delicious, but you can also check out the cows that make it all possible. The kids will love running around the farm, and you’ll love a quiet moment with a scoop of salted caramel. Win-win!
📍 Location: 4852 Long Green Rd, Glen Arm, MD 21057
🎟️ Cost: Ice cream prices vary
If your kids are anything like mine, they never say no to a zoo trip—especially when there are baby animals involved! Spring is the best time to visit The Maryland Zoo because there’s a good chance you’ll spot newborn giraffes, playful penguin chicks, or fuzzy otter pups. Plus, the carousel and train ride always make for a fun bonus.
📍 Location: 1 Safari Place, Baltimore, MD 21217
🎟️ Cost: $22-26 (children under 2 are free)
Spring is short, so let’s make the most of it! Whether you’re stopping for ice cream, watching baby animals, or just enjoying the fresh air, there are so many ways to spend quality time with your family this season.
