When a family welcomes a new baby, it can totally rock the household. It can be especially tough for toddlers to adapt to having a newborn around. I know from experience! While capturing your Baltimore newborn photos, my goal is to always keep things light and fun for everyone involved.

Toddlers During Baltimore Newborn Photos

When I enter your space for a newborn session, I want to make sure that your toddler is at complete ease. I want to make the experience quick and fun, because I know from experience as both a photographer and a mom that your toddler has a short attention span and will be ready to move on and get back to Toddler Things as soon as possible!

1. When I arrive, I get down on the toddler’s level to introduce myself. I let them know I’m a friend and here to have fun with them. I want them to know I’m interested in them, too, not just their new sibling.
2. I make sure to get all photos involving the toddler right at the beginning. I know our window for cheerful cooperation is short, and I don’t want to add stress to an already dynamic time. Typically, I can be done with all photos with a toddler in about 20 minutes, including family, siblings, and usually one solo photo!
3. I ask your toddler to help me. Toddlers love having jobs, typically, so I have several ways to include them by asking for help. It might be helping me hold the baby, or making dad laugh.

Realistic Expectations with Toddlers

I almost hesitate to use the word expectations because it feels kind of stuffy, but really, I keep my expectations low. I never want your photo session to feel stressful – for you or your toddler. Having realistic expectations helps keep the energy light. With a laidback approach, we can get your toddler back to playing and snacking and all the things toddlers love to do.
