Have questions about a Baltimore maternity and newborn session with me? Cool, because I have answers!
I usually suggest scheduling your session between 30 and 34 weeks.
I’m a big fan of flowy, feminine dresses (or a flowy skirt and top combo). This looks beautiful and adds an element of movement to your images. I have some suggestions on an Amazon list here, too.
I typically don’t include props in my sessions. If there’s something special you’d like to include, we can chat about it!
I’d reach out when you know you’d like to work together! That way we can make sure I have availability for you. Your due date is used as the “place holder” to get you on my books, but that will flex based on baby’s arrival.
Great question! Fresh 48 sessions happen within the first 48 hours of life, typically at the place of birth. I’m a bit more “fly on the wall” and less “creative director” during this type of session, as my goal is really just to document the raw and sometimes intimate nature of those first few days.
Newborn sessions typically happen within the first 2-4 weeks. Sometimes it’s sooner, sometimes it’s a bit later. Everyone’s wellbeing is really the driving factor here! One of my favorite things about lifestyle newborn session is there isn’t the pressure to get your session done right away for an optimal sleepy stage.
Your home! If this makes you nervous, please don’t be. The style of your home or how orderly it is are not important during your newborn session. All I truly need is one good window. If there’s clutter or dirty dishes or neglected laundry, guess what: there’s probably some of that in my house, too. Your home is where your love grows, and that makes it the perfect spot for your newborn session.
Again, I think a flowy, feminine dress is a great choice for moms. They can be beautiful and also comfy on your healing body. Dads can keep it simple – jeans or nice pants in a neutral tone with a plain shirt, button down, or sweater. Keep siblings in simple, classic options, too. I love a sweet dress for sisters and a plain/nice shirt and pants or shorts is a great option for brothers. Again, this link has some ideas.
That’s okay. I fully expect some wildness because a) toddlers, b) new baby, and c) unfamiliar adult taking pictures. Plus I’m a mom of two and I know how it can be. I typically try to get siblings done early in the session so they can roll out and get back to Official Toddler Things like snacks and stuff. I’ll follow their lead and keep it low pressure! If your toddler is acting out a bit during our session, please don’t feel the need to correct or discipline them (barring any major safety concerns). I’m pretty good at redirecting kiddos to get what I’m looking for, so just keep loving on them and I’ll handle the rest!
That’s okay, too! I plan for it because being a newborn is hard! That’s why newborn sessions can sometimes take a little longer. If baby needs a change or to eat, we’ll do that. Baby rarely leaves your arms during our time together, so hopefully with a full tummy, a dry diaper, and safety of your arms, we won’t encounter this too much. If we do, we’ll follow baby’s lead. Just keep snuggling that precious babe and I’ll take care of the rest.
After our session(s), I take care of all the details of your album – designing, ordering and delivering. There’s no additional work needed on your end! Within 2 weeks of gallery delivery, you’ll receive a beautiful keepsake album featuring the best of your gallery delivered right to your door. Your gallery will be a total of 10 spreads. If you had a maternity session, there will be 1-2 spreads from it, and if you had a fresh 48 session, there will be 1 spread from it.
