If you’re wondering when is the best time to book your Baltimore family photo session, I’m here to help you figure it out! Here are a few considerations to help you pick the right time for a session for your family!

Season and Weather

Think about the season that best suits your family’s preferences. If you love floral blooms and lush greens, spring or summer might be your best bet. If warm, earthy tones are more your style, autumn is a great choice. Keep in mind that summer days are longer, but late fall and early winter have pretty early sunsets! Lighting is a key part of my style, and I shoot during golden hour for outdoor sessions. This means start times 1-2 hours prior to sunset to get that warm, soft, yummy light I love.

Family Schedule

Consider the availability and schedules of all family members involved. Do your children have extracurricular practice multiple times a night in the spring? Are summers a more laid back time of yera for you? Choose a time when everyone can participate without feeling rushed or stressed. Weekends are the most popular choice, and tend to book quickest.

Kids’ Routines

As the mama of two littles, I appreciate the importance of nap and bedtime. Consider the approximate sunset for the time of year you’re considering. If you opt for a summer session when the days are a bit longer, I typically suggest delaying nap time by about 30 minutes. I’ve also had parents bring pajamas to the session and change into jammies after the session before the ride home. Whatever works!
